What a Long Strange Trip: A Heuristic Exploration of Sexual Healing Through Catharsis and Pleasure with Psychedelic Plant Medicines

Over the past several years there has been an explosion of clinical research and representations in the media about the use of psychedelic medicines as groundbreaking therapies for the treatment of PTSD, depression, and addiction. While the literature focuses largely on the eradication of symptoms and trauma, less is said about the role psychedelics can play in healing through the embodied experience of sensual pleasure, play, and reconnection with the self. This presentation will look at ritual psychedelic experiences as a vehicle for erotic transformation through the lens of the presenter’s own journey from PTSD to sexual healing with sacred plant medicines in legal retreat contexts in Peru. We will review recent clinical findings and compare the neuro-physiological shifts facilitated by ritual psychedelic experience to BDSM, meditation, EMDR and other healing modalities. *Please note this presentation will only address legal psychedelic experiences in research studies and in legal contexts outside of the U.S. and does not endorse any illegal activity.
