PhD

Holly Walters, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist whose work focuses on religion, language, and ritual practice in South Asia. Her current research addresses issues of religious experience and sacred landscapes in the pilgrimage economies and embodied ritual activities of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims in the high Himalayas of Mustang, Nepal who venerate sacred fossils, called Shaligrams. Her research also explores the links between religious practice and community-building between India, Tibet and Nepal in a time of globalization and social precarity.
